Rottweiler Breed Standard: it’s important to read and appraise the order of its many paragraphs: the first and second concern physical appearance and general proportions; the third, behavior and character … this breed loves children, is affectionate, obedient, easily trainable, and a lover of hard work … only the fourth paragraph talks about the head!
A.D.R.K. (since 1907) is the absolute and only German Rottweiler club; it promotes the breed and is the holder of the current standard. It was created from the merger of the D.R.K with the I.R.K.
Its unification motto was “Die Rottwielerzucht ist und bleibt Gebrauchshundezucht”: The breeding of Rottweilers is, and shall remain, the breeding of dogs of great usefulness.
the ring: in theory it is an arena in which to compare dogs, allowing them to be admired and evaluated under a morphological-functional profile, but unfortunately it often turns into a beauty contest where the dog is judged for the appearance of his head alone.
selection: from a deep knowledge of blood lines, we try to continuously improve
type with specifically targeted mating partners.
consanguinity: yes or no? The ‘wizards’ among breeders practice it quite often; it helps to secure the best qualities but also preserves defects. Scientific study has already revealed the high risk involved; better “open” pairings with at most the existence of “distant mixing” supported with DNA testing.………This is the path we have chosen.
Klubsieger: championship of the German breeding establishment, a truly international celebration; it was established by the A.D.R.K in 1971. It is now in its 38th year…
Deutsche Meisterschaft: championship of German working class, established in 1951 by the A.D.R.K., presently in its 58th year. In sum, 20 years before prizing morphology, character was first and foremost!
Ztp Korung and levels: are used to test temperament and character, predatory tendencies and aggression, firmness of nerves, balance, playfulness, capacity for inter-specific relations, morphological functionality and physical performance.
Dysplasia HD and ED: include degrees which indicate extent of the condition. Hereditary defects are genetically transmittable; can be monitored using official x-rays. Ethically speaking, we are obliged to isolate the condition, thereby avoiding the use of unsuitable subjects.
A, B, C, D, E litters: categories of litters determined by certified standards regarding the health, character and morphology of the stud dogs and broodmares.
A: stud and broodmare certified with HD A/B - ED 0/1 – ZTP – IPO – Excellent morphology.
B: either stud or broodmare the same as in A; remaining subject without ZTP.
C: both subjects certified only with HD A/B and ED 0/1.
D: either stud or broodmare the same as in C; the remaining subject completely anonymous.
E: both subjects are anonymous.
n.b: The Mecenate dell’Osteoborus, resolves to exclusively produce only those litters certified as A or B.
Gypsy travels: consists of the more or less 10, 000 km per year travelled all over Europe attending events sponsored by Klubsieger, Deutsche Meisterschaft, Korung, and the IFR, as well as visiting breeders and browsing among different training schools, seeking to attentively discern the best possible potential subjects.
